What Are "Modalities," Anyway?
If you've been looking into therapy, you've probably seen words like CBT, EMDR, IFS, DBT or ACT floating around and maybe wondered what any of it actually means. "Modality" is just a fancy word for approach.
Think of it like this: if therapy is the destination (feeling better, understanding yourself, healing from something hard), modalities are the different roads that can get you there. I help you choose which road(s) to go down depending on what fits you best!
Here is a brief snapshot of the ones I implement the most:
Helps your brain "unstick" and reprocess painful memories, so they stop feeling so overwhelming.
Helps you make peace with hard thoughts and feelings while still moving toward the life you actually want
Looks at the different "parts" of you (like the anxious part, or the part that shuts down) and helps them work together instead of against each other.
